Conte Chiffonné
ArchiveSynopsis
Conte Chiffonné is a performance made entirely from fabric, rags and lace, inspired by the story of Cinderella.
Guided by an actor-puppeteer, the audience enters a dreamlike world of castles, fairies and princes made from delicate, almost unreal lace.
Then, like the heroine, they are taken by surprise by a huge pile of rags falling from the sky, covering her completely and plunging her into a darker world of conflict and turmoil. The story’s characters emerge from the heap and vanish as if by magic: the wicked stepmother, the ugly sisters, the mistreated young girl… Finally, through a play of transparency, the rags become light and colourful, bringing the fairy to life and transforming our Cinderella into a princess.
A play of materials that transform and come alive, carried by Laurent Rochelle’s timeless music.

A performance inspired by the worlds of artists Anne Bothuon, with her unsettling figures made from stitched fabric, and Cécile Dachary, who creates installations made entirely from crochet.
The perceptual works of Hans Haake, Ann Veronica Janssens and Émilie Faif are also fascinating in their use of movement, colour and light on fabric. The movement of drapes and veils in the choreography of Loïe Fuller, a dancer from the early twentieth century, has a hypnotic charm and a fluid, painterly aesthetic.
